Annual Inclusive Education Conference 2024, Nigeria
Globally, education systems are evolving to meet the Sustainable Development Goals' ambition for high-quality, inclusive education. The British Council believes that the inclusion of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) into mainstream education is both a right and an entitlement. However, while Nigeria has made significant progress with inclusive education policy, the challenge lies in turning these policies into practice.
The two-day Inclusive Education Conference, organised by the British Council under the English and School Education Policy Dialogue, will bring together policymakers, practitioners, and education leaders to explore the alignment of inclusive education policy and practice.
This event aims to address key challenges and opportunities, offering recommendations for creating more inclusive, equitable school environments in Nigeria. Participants will benefit from international and national insights, effective practices, and collaborative discussions on how to improve the inclusivity of Nigeria’s school systems.
Conference Themes:
- Implementation and Monitoring: Exploring capacity building, policy implementation, and monitoring impact on student outcomes.
- Leadership and Governance: Promoting inclusive leadership and accountability within the education system.
- Equity and Inclusion: Addressing systemic barriers and ensuring equal access for all students.
- Collaboration and Partnership: Encouraging knowledge sharing and advocacy to support inclusive education.
Expected Outcomes:
- Improved understanding of aligning inclusive education policy with practice.
- Practical strategies for implementing inclusive education policies.
- Strengthened partnerships and collaborations.
