The Learn English Audio Pilot in Nigeria (LEAPIN) was an initiative of British Council that helped no/low resource schools gain access to quality English learning materials delivered via solar powered ruggedized MP3 recorder units. These audio units contained lower grade primary songs and stories, lesson plans and phonics which were mapped to the Nigerian curriculum.
The pilot phase of this project was carried out in Kwara and Jigawa State. We partnered with Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) with the support of Kwara State Universal Education Board and Jigawa State Universal Education Board to train 600 state school teachers on the appropriate methodology, content navigation and the technical aspect of these units.
The monitoring and evaluation of the project was carried out by the Open University.
