Below is a list of admission tests we currently administer on behalf of UK universities:

BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) February (Formerly BMAT Navarra)

Test format

The BMAT is a two-hour pen and paper test in three sections (with only time to collect one section and give the next one out)

 Section 1: Aptitude and Skills (1 hour – 35 multiple choice questions)

Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Applications (30 minutes – 27 multiple- choice questions)

Section 3: Writing Task (30 minutes – one writing task from a choice of 4)

BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) October

BMAT is a two-hour subject-specific admissions test taken by applicants of certain medicine and veterinary medicine-related courses at selected institutions in the UK.

BMAT consists of three sections:

Section 1: Aptitude and Skills (60 minutes)
Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Applications (30 minutes)
Section 3: Writing Task (30 minutes)

Candidate Registration and Key dates to take note of

  • 1 September Registration opens 
  • By 30 September Requests for modified question papers
  • 1 October by midnight BST Registration deadline – standard fee (BMAT)
  • 15 October by 18.00 BST Final registration deadline – higher (late) fee 
  • 15 October Standard/Late entry deadline for other tests 
  • 30 October Test date 

The applicable fees are:

  • BMAT & TMUA – N139,200 for Standard entry

PAT (Physics Aptitude Test)

PAT is a two-hour, subject-specific admissions test for applicants of all University of Oxford’s Engineering, Materials Science and Physics undergraduate degree courses.

MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test)

MAT is a two-hour and 30-minute, subject-specific admissions test for applicants of the University of Oxford’s undergraduate degree courses in Mathematics, Computer Science and their joint degrees.

As of 2013, Imperial College London started using MAT for all of its undergraduate Mathematics course applicants.

HAT (History Aptitude Test)

HAT is a two-hour, subject-specific admissions test for applicants of the University of Oxford’s undergraduate degree courses in History and its joint schools.

English Literature Admissions Test (ELAT)

The English Literature Admissions Test (ELAT) is a pre-interview admissions test for applicants to English undergraduate courses at the University of Oxford and English at the University of Cambridge. Assessment arrangements for mature applicants to the University of Cambridge vary – please check the University of Cambridge website for details. It is one of the elements admissions tutors use to decide whether to invite a candidate for an interview.

ELAT is a paper-based test lasting 90 minutes. It tests candidates’ close reading skills, and their ability to shape and articulate an informed response to unfamiliar literary material.

TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) Oxford

The Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) helps universities to identify whether you have the critical thinking and problem-solving skills which are essential for success in higher education. The Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) Oxford is a 2-hour pre-interview test for applicants to undergraduate courses at the University of Oxford.

TSA Oxford is a pen-and-paper test. It consists of two sections:

  • Section 1: Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA)
  • Section 2: Writing Task
