Four Nigerian UK alumni emerged winners at the fourth Study UK Alumni Awards that was held at the Grand Ballroom of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos on February 10, 2023.

In total, 12 UK alumni in four categories were recognized for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, and for their contribution to strengthening ties between the UK and Nigeria.

Recipients were selected for the four award categories: Science and Sustainability Award, Culture and Creativity Award, Social Action Award, and Business and Innovation Award.

Cassandra Akinde (Social Action Award Winner)

Dr Cassandra Akinde is a public health physician working in the nexus of preventive medicine and epidemiology. In 2020, she obtained a master's in Tropical Medicine and International Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK. She observes that studying at LSHTM has accelerated her professional and organisational growth through upskilling her epidemiology and research skills, expanding her network globally and teaching her how to influence policy.

Sarah Egbo

Sarah Egbo is a gender and development expert with over six years of experience in the non- profit sector. She has a master's in Gender and Development from the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, United Kingdom. She is also a Chevening Scholarship alumna. She emphasizes that her educational experience at Sussex taught her invaluable knowledge and skills. The ongoing support from the university's dedicated staff and alumni network, sets it apart from studying elsewhere.
