Major new art installations across Abuja by UK artist Laura Aldridge.
Go Woman Go! is a collaboration between British Artist Laura Aldridge and women in Abuja, with the aim of strengthening textile and printmaking traditions in Nigeria as part of UK/Nigeria 2015-16.
In September 2015, workshops facilitated by Chief (Mrs) Nike Okundaye were organised with Laura Aldridge and 35 women in Abuja at the Nike Centre for Art and Culture, where they learnt new techniques in textile design. Aldridge also met with female ceramicists in Giri, Abuja and inspired by them, designed a more intimate expression of her own ceramic vessels.
Go Woman Go! culminates in two public exhibitions in November, 2016. The first takes the form of a bulding wrap of the Headquarters of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Abuja with a unique pattern inspired by the textile workshop and the second, an installation of ceramic vessels in House 33, Abuja commissioned from the ceramicists in Giri.
